What does coconut oil pulling therapy entail?
Step 1
The process is actually very simple. Take one tablespoon of virgin organic coconut oil and swish it back and forth in your mouth for about 20 minutes. Be sure to do this on an empty stomach first thing every morning before brushing your teeth because you need to clean out any lingering toxins afterwards. Alternatively, you can do it before lunch provided you have not eaten for at least 4 hours.
Step 2
After about 20 minutes, the oil turns watery and milky white and this is a sign that you are pulling chemicals and toxins out of your body. Spit out the coconut oil and gargle your mouth with warm salt water. The process should not be stressful at all. Coconut oil swishing in mouth may feel a little foreign.
At first it might be quite difficult to do the 20 minutes straight. Therefore, you can start out in 5 minutes intervals. If your muscles get sore you are swishing the oil too vigorously! If you are a multi-tasker like myself, you can even do other things such as washing the dishes, showering or watching the news while gently swishing the oil in your mouth! However, if you feel the urge to swallow the oil – spit it out, take a deep breath and start again. After a few goes, it will become second nature.
